CowboyStudio NPT-04 4 Channel Wireless Hot Shoe Flash Trigger Receiver for Canon EOS, Nikon, Olympus & Pentax Flashes Other products by cowboystudio

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Ok I was also like everyone else and had my hopes up getting these, but for the cost, why not? So I get them today, put some new batteries in, set my Opteka EF600 to manual and attempted to shoot with flash (with the flash a few feet away). I get nothing. So I start using different manual settings, and I still get nothing. I read that pretty much it's a connect and go kind of thing, but I was clueless as to why it wasn't working. Hitting the test button I could see that it was transmitting and receiving. I even tried looking up whether or not it worked with my flash but I couldn't find anything online. So after some time... just as I was about to give up all hope after trying everything I could think of, I was handling my flash then pressed the test button, and it fired. I was like "what the h3ll...?" It fired with every test press, and then fired from my Canon 5D as well! I was relieved!!! So HERE WAS THE ISSUE! The transmitter fits very snugly on my shoe mount. The receiver however DOES NOT! It has the tiniest amount of play, perhaps a mm or less, but I can hear it clicking when one of the metal prongs 'digs' into the metal groove. So one way and NOTHING... move it the tiniest amount and VOILA' it works! That is why I gave my review 4 stars. Plus I wanted someone else out there to know it works with the Opteka EF600!

As for initial testing, yes it worked on all the different MANUAL power settings. The furthest away so far it worked was 2 rooms. And something I haven't read yet, it does work for consecutive rapid fire shots. I look forward to testing out the possibilities with my flash now that it has a purpose off my camera as well!

Works with Canon T2i.
I have to admit I wasn't really impressed at first with the build quality and the packaging but what was I expecting for a cheap flash trigger and receiver. The great thing though is that they work just fine with my Canon T2i 550D and my 430ex II flash. I couldn't see myself spending hundreds just yet on Pocket Wizard if I'm just learning the ropes of photography so I thought I'd give these a try and I was pleasantly surprised. If these work just as good or atleast close to being as good as the more expensive pair then I don't see why you shouldn't try them. There's not instructions included but the company has online instructional videos you can check out. They're very easy to use though. Bottom line, they're inexpensive and they work fine.

Needs Better Packaging
While I was satisfied with the product, the packaging left a lot to be desired. My NPT-04 came in a box with NO packing material, and it was quite knocked around and knocked OUT OF IT'S BLISTER PACKAGE. Fortunatly it was not damaged, but it could easily have been so, considering the CowboyStudio Strobist Swivel Flash Bracket Umbrella Holder was also knocking around in the same package. I know there is a need to economize with these ideal prices for these products, but at least some old newspaper packing would've sufficed.

The radio controller is pretty cool, however, and I recommend it to anyone who needs remote triggering withing limited distances. You may have complications outdoors at great distances if you don't use fresh batteries (consider Nickel-Zinc batteries for the receiver), but indoors it totally rocks.

about the battery
There has been alot of questions about the transmitter, and why it doesn't seem to need a battery.

It does have an internal 23 Amp battery similar to alot of car/alarm remote batteries. You would have to access it through the small screw on the top of it, open the top, and you will see the battery.
The type is pretty standard, and you can order them here at Amazon, or I think they have them at Radio Shack also.

Since it is 23 "AMPS", not "Milliamps", it (inch for inch) has 1000 times the capacity of regular AA batteries. In other words, it will last a VERY long time. I know someone who has had one of these for 4 years and still no sign of low battery.

After that much time, (if I haven't broken this thing - hey, I'm clumsy) I probably would have bought something else anyway.
So the last thing anyone should worry about is the battery life of the transmitter.

It. Just. Works.
I bought a transmitter/receiver set and then an additional receiver to fire 2 - Nikon SB-900 Speedlights from my Nikon D700. Received via USPS from Texas to MN 4 days after ordering. No instructions but easy enough to figure out. Worked flawlessly (so far) in a few test around the house. Fired a remote flash buried inside a Westcott 28-Inch Apollo Softbox (where I have had trouble with the Nikon CLS system), fired one across the street, one on another floor in the house and through 3 walls with no hiccups. I've been saving for Pocket Wizards but for including shipping for all 3 pieces, this is a no-brainier. Try them, you won't be disappointed.

Pioneer AVIC-U310BT 4.3-Inch In-Dash Navigation Receiver with CD Player and Bluetooth

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

First off, I'm sure most of the negative reviews on here are from the out of box/ older units without the updated Firmware! So if you decide to pull the trigger and buy this unit.... UPDATE THE FIRMWARE TO VERSION 1.0003 or later! Can easily be done with an SD card and visiting Pioneer's website to down load the newest version. With that said, I love my new head unit! Sure it doesn't have all the good points of interest like gas stations and dinning poi's. But I don't use my navi for that anyway, So that's fine with me. As with the main features. The bluetooth works great, just make sure to locate to mic in a good location. I have mine clipped to my sun visor. The Ipod controls are great, The cd player preforms great. My only con at the time of this review that I haven't really noticed on any other reviews Is my my radio tuner is a little weak. Only noticed it on one station I regulatory listen to in my area. Never had a problem picking up that station on any of my other cars. It may just be my unit or maybe the install itself. I'll end up taking it back out to check and make sure I have no lose connections and update the review if I solve the problem. But anyway, if your in the market for a integrated GPS and bluetooth for your ride at just a little over the price of a stand alone GPS that has to be mounted to your dash/windscreen, This is it! You can adjust the volume of the voice directions separately from your music. So you can still jam out and hear your directions over your music. You get a call or make one, Your music cuts out completely so you can talk! I love this radio! Btw, have it in a 2004 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner.

Nice Unit
Works good for me. It does have it's quirks as others have said, but for the price the unit is a great value.

Perfect aftermarket unit
I installed this on my 2007 Chrysler 300, replacing the stock radio. The sound is amazing. I have 2 10 inch Kicker subs and they work perfectly with this unit. I have my 120GB ipod in the glove compartment connected to this unit and it is so convenient to control the ipod with this. The navigation works great so does the hands free calling. I am so glad I made this purchase. Definitely recommend this product.

BEWARE - Amazon NOT an Authorized Reseller - No Waranty
This is a pretty solid HU when you update the firmware, and installation took a few hours (primarily to route wires and get steering wheel interface working). Ipod controls are pretty good, if a little slow. The AVIC Feeds software is useless, so don't waste too much time on that, and as others have noted the POI database included with the navigation system is laughable. If you like to search your nav for gas stations, restaurants, hotels, ... they are not in there. You'll need to buy the POI supplement from Pioneer, which runs around - and does include all of those things. All-in-all, for the money, this is a pretty nice and very capable unit.

My big complaint is with Amazon - nowhere do they disclose that they are not an authorized reseller for Pioneer car audio. When I had a problem with the Bluetooth microphone, I was told by Pioneer that the unit is NOT waranteed. So in essence, you have your normal 30 day window to return purchases to Amazon; after that, you have NO PROTECTION. If the unit dies on day 31, you are out of luck. This is borderline deceptive - if I knew that I was not getting a warranty, I would not have purchased from Amazon. By the time I learned, I had already invested lots of time and energy installing the unit in my car - if I decide to return I would have to reverse the process, then spend even more time installing something else. This will be the last electronics purchase I make from Amazon.

Honestly surprised
For the price I thought the Pioneer wouldn't deliver the results as a more expensive head unit. Being an audio freak and a DJ as well I really value quality from audio equipment and this product definitely delivered. It powers the speakers really well and compliments a high grade subwoofer extremely well. The navigation is pretty good and the bluetooth is great.

BU-353: GlobalSat BU-353 WaterProof USB GPS Receiver (SiRF Star III)

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

it works wonderfully in places my garmin just could not get a signal even inside our garage that has no windows. It is super fast too, about 3 second after its plugged in it has a lock. The cord could be a little longer but that is just for my application. I drive a tow truck and this thing goes to work about 60 hours a week. I have forgotten to put it in the truck a couple of times at the car wash and it does just fine with the soap and high pressure water. I have had to unplug it and plug it back in a couple of times but I am not sure if it is this device or windows that is the problem so I wont fault the gizmo.

Works with Mac ENC
The BU 353 is recommended by Mac ENC (marine chart plotter).
I have a few gps receivers which work with various PC software but not the Mac.
Found it on Amazon for less than from the software provider.
A no-brainer. Fast delivery too.

You better know something about PC's to get it to work!!
The unit now works, but it was about a two hour effort to get it to work on Windows 7. The drivers are ancient that come with it, and I had to do a lot of digging around on the manafacturers website and try different settings in Win 7 before I finally got it to work. Understanding that... the instructions are vague as well! Here we are in 2010 and the instructions look like something you would get with a toy in a fast-food kids meal!

Works like a dream
Works great, Plugged it in, loaded the software onto my laptop, and was working in seconds. I'm replacing the GPS unit that came with Streets&Trips. This unit works so much faster than the Microsoft one ever did. It locks on satellites in 1-2 seconds as oppose to 30 seconds to 10 minutes with my other one.

Great quality
Found this at a great price on Amazon and shipping was quick. This item is of great quality and if you have done any research you will find it is well respected and recommended.

Windows 7 Vista XP Media Center MCE PC Remote Control and Infrared Receiver for Home, Premium and Ultimate Edition

Windows 7 Vista XP Media Center MCE PC Remote Control and Infrared Receiver for Home, Premium and Ultimate Edition

I just got this remote yesterday and am very glad I made the purchase! The remote itself is well built and very similar to our DirecTV remotes. Ergonomically it fits well in the hand and is very easy to use. Also, it is very easy to set up, all I did was plug in the IR adapter into a USB port, put in the batteries (2 AAA that came with the remote) and you're in business. I use Windows 7 and it took less than 30 seconds to find and install the drivers (probably closer to about 10 seconds).

I am disabled and this makes it so much easier to access my computer from my bed. Much more convenient and less bulky compared to using a wireless keyboard and mouse too. Because I spend so much time in bed, I listen to music a lot and this makes it so easy to adjust the volume and skip tracks. The built in mouse features works awesome for when I am listening to songs from Napster or other programs other than Windows Media Center or Windows Media Player.

MY room is 15'x20' not including the attached master Bath and I have no range issues anywhere in the room or even in the bathroom with the door open.

One of the main reasons I got this remote was for the built in Mouse function. Other than basic movements, there are buttons for right clicking and left clicking. It took my wife and me about a minute to get used to the mouse movement; starting slow, than speeding up.

All in all, a good remote with some very handy features and for a price under , it's a great deal and I very much recommend it if you're looking for a basic remote and a cheaper substitute to a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Great remote for the price
Nice little remote. It has a little mouse pad...how cool is that. It's got everything a couch potato needs... hahaha. Highly recommended.

Works great!!
works great in windows media center. i am going to buy another one to have on hand.

Window Media Center Remote work on Windows 7
I was really excited when the remote arrived at our postbox. I was anxious to see if it would work with Windows 7, and it did. It is a nice remote with small, but easy buttons to directly go to the main sections of Windows Media Center. My only gripe is the mouse scroll er which is a round pad located in the middle of the remote. It is slow and their is a bit of lag time between your mouse movement and the cursor on the screen. Overall this is a functional remote.

A remote control for all my media players!
This remote control rocks! Besides using it with my Windows 7 Media Center, I can use some of its functions for all other media players (e.g. kmplayer, etc.), I would say this is a must for anyone who has PC hooked up with HDTV.

Pioneer DEH-2200UB CD Receiver with iPod Direct Control and USB Input

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

I just bought this CD receiver to replace the stock unit in my '05 civic. Amazon had the price down to 5 when I purchased it, making it one of the best values for quality CD receivers out there with USB capability. I mainly chose the Pioneer due to the solid reviews (many other brands out there have similar sub-0 units, but they get regularly thrashed by buyers).

Did the installation myself, helps to buy an aftermarket dash unit (I used a Metra kit) so you can fit the unit in snugly and blend it in to the car. Very straightforward wiring, especially if you buy a wiring harness plug for your car model.

Plays off CDs, thumb drives, and most ipods pretty easily. Very nice to have the USB capability so I can play off a pocketable thumb drive, they are so much easier than CDs and you can get an 8GB for under these days. My old-as-stink iPod turned out to not be compatible, but I'm not really all that torn up as I never use it anyway, and would rather just keep a flash drive with me or in the car. It integrated just fine with a friend's iPhone and a more recent iPod. Controlling the iPod is not bad if you have organized playlists, but since you only have one display line, it's not as nice as just using the iPod alone. And if that's what you prefer, you can just use a 3.5mm headphone male/male cable in the AUX slot and plug any old iPod or mp3 player in, enjoy the easy interface - only upside of the USB slot is that it keeps the iPod charged for long journeys.

User interface, as might be expected, takes some getting used to. Expect a couple of trips or checks to the instruction manual before you remember how to adjust everything. There's more buttons than your average car stereo, so it's not super-intuitive like an iPod, but it's simple enough to be automatic after a while. Also comes with a remote, which I haven't used much, but the buttons are definitely more clear. It would be nice to maybe have two knobs (volume, tuning/adjustment), but I suppose there's not really room in a single-DIN unit to make it sensible.

I'm no audiophile, but it sounds fine to me. Lots of adjustability in bass, mid, treble. Was playing with the radio just after I installed it, and it seemed a little more staticy than I remember. But might have just been me, I will have to find a way to test it more categorically. Was working in my driveway behind a stone wall, and to be honest I can't even specifically remember plugging the antenna jack back in before fitting the dash back together, so who really knows.

If you live in an area where reception is weak, you'll hear a big improvement in signal strength. And when you're near tall buildings, Supertuner IIID reduces the effect of multi-path noise, which occurs when the signal is reflecting off of the buildings.

MOSFET 50W x4 Amplifier for the Power Hungry
Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, delivering power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. And that doesn't just mean a boost in volume: it means that your music will be cleaner at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. Clean, efficient power that will rock your vehicle.

Inevitably, there will be those who still need more. The DEH-2200UB is therefore equipped with a pair of 2.2V rear preamp outputs for system expansion with external amps/speakers.

Get Plugged In
Use the built-in AUX input for connecting any digital portable player and other external auxiliary devices. For extra-convenient access, the input is on the front panel.

Dial In Your Sound
Tweak the sound to your liking with the on-board three-band EQ. A Loudness feature ensures ample low-end even during quiet listening, and standard balance/fader controls let you adjust the stereo image to suit your vehicle and preferences.

Sony MEX-BT3800U In-Dash CD Receiver MP3/WMA/AAC Player with Bluetooth

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

I have owned this head unit for one month now. I can honestly say it blows me away to this day. Instead of making many paragraphs I'll just add a few points.

Pros:
The first time you receive a call over BT will be like the first email you ever received! It is so cool to be driving down the road and you get a call, hit the button and you're talking. When the call is ended, it goes right back to the same music you were just listening to.

Everything I do not mention is a pro. I know but really everything about this radio is perfect except the following cons:

Cons:
The silly beep you get each and every time you turn your car off. It is impossible to get rid of and I've scoured the manual over and over looking for a way.

The USB drive that I use sticks out and I'm afraid one day I will break it, I sure wish they had a second port on the back of the unit.

I can not for the life of me get the unit to autoconnect to my ipod touch. It autoconnects with my BT phone without fail but for my ipod I have to play with it each and every time.

Even though the built-in mic is perfectly adequate, it could stand to be better, IMHO. I am now looking into purchasing an external mic.

That's about it. I think as far as "bang for the buck" goes you really can't go wrong with this Sony unit. I love mine and have never had it so good - I'm lovin' it!

everything good but...
Everything works well. I'd buy this for my other car.

Unfortunately, according to Sony, it only supports play/pause function for iPhone 4 BT when streaming music. Can't skip tracks.

Great Radio!
Got this radio for my Harley. Mounted it in with the biketronics kit. It really kicks. I love the USB plug for my MP3's. Have about 1500 songs on it. The CD player also works perfect with MP3 disk and dosen't skip when I hit some pretty good bumps on the bike. The blue tooth is pretty cool to. Can hook up whatever device I want to with this radio. I highly recommend this radio.

Fit my camry nicely
The sound quality is truy excellent for its price range. I highly recommend buying this and believe me, you will not be disappointed. Another site has this listed at a lot more money, I bought mine for a lot less included shipping. Also try to get the external microphone, will really help in trying to make clear calls. This is the best headunit I've own and I owned plenty. I was browsing around and happen to fall here. The bt3800u has usb port, aux, and plenty of audio format support. Plus not to forget the great built-in bluetooth which ultimately led to my buy. The interface is beautiful. Everything about this headunit is excellent.

Pioneer AVH-P3200DVD In-Dash Double-DIN DVD Multimedia AV Receiver

You get your bang for the buck on this head unit! I couldn't find another unit that did *all* of these things in one place without the need for extra adapters or pricey addons. Between reading MP3 files from a USB drive, SD cards, burned CDs *and* DVDs, there isn't a lot more I could ask for in terms of format options. There is also the aux input which allows a standard 1/8" stereo patch cable to be connected from the headphone jack of a device into the head unit. Beyond that, it will also interface with and directly control your ipod/iphone or allow you to control it yourself. With my iphone I can stream music from pandora or any other application I have. No hassling with FM transmitters, and no analog 3G chatter from using an AUX patch cable (that super annoying buzz on your speakers). Just pure digital signal.

I installed this head unit about a week ago and took a long road trip this past weekend. It made the road trip great! Bluetooth syncs perfectly with my iphone 3Gs - it finds my address book no problemo. The handsfree mic that comes with the unit works great clipped to my sunvisor; I routed the cable through the weatherstripping on the driver's side windshield pillar and down through the gap between the windshield and the dash (2004 Pontiac Vibe). The unit interrupts the music when an incoming call or outgoing call is detected.

Video looks good! The screen seems to be polarized so that the sun does not glare as harshly off the display, allowing you to see most of the details even in daylight (dark scenes aren't so good, but what do you want :P ).The unit is designed to be connected to the parking brake signal wire of the vehicle. You must first engage, disengage and then re-engage the parking brake for the unit to play video. Playing video while driving (and in view of the driver) requires a bypass, may be illegal and is definitely a bad idea.

The unit can also be upgraded to include a rear view camera, a nav system and HD/XM/Sirius satellite radio - I don't have any of those, so I can be of no help there :)

Here are some of my annoyances with this head unit:

CD-IU50V USB Interface Cable for iPod/iPhone is required for watching video from the ipod/iphone. The TRRS connector plug that stems from this adapter cable allows the video to flow through one of the analog circuits. I picked up the cable "used" for half price on Amazon here, but it is still relatively pricey. Also, this cable is only about 2 feet long - you may consider picking up a "dock extender" cable for your ipod/iphone in order to lengthen the run. Attaching an extender to the CD-IU50V did not keep it from playing video.

Another annoyance is that in order to play video off of the iphone/ipod you MUST use the control interface on the head unit itself. If you navigate to your video via the iphone/ipod then the audio will play over the speakers, but the video will not be displayed. Touch the icon in the lower right corner of the ipod control screen to allow the head unit to control your ipod/iphone; touch the magnifying glass icon to open the file browser and then browse to your video.

There is a slight time lapse between MP3's on DVDs & SD cards; this is annoying if you have an album that is meant to flow between songs or if you are listening to an audiobook. At the same time, getting 4.3 gb of music onto a single (asin:B00385H7RS).20 disc is amazing, and I am willing to deal with a 1 second lapse.

The bluetooth auto-sync is a bit unreliable with my iPhone. I don't know if it is a feature of my phone that causes this or if it is the head unit. About 70% of the time my phone successfully connects to the unit no prob; I don't have to do a thing. The other 30% of the time I either have to go to the bluetooth menu on the head unit which forces detection (I blame this on the head unit) or I have to go to the bluetooth menu of my phone and force it to pair (I blame this on my phone). It would be nice if it were flawless, but ah well. If I have to connect at the beginning of a call, at least my hand is freed once I have the connection up and running.

The unit is apparently limited to 4gb or 8gb SD cards? I haven't tried anything larger than 2gb. Would be annoying if SD were the only format option, but as it stands, you have many, many input options.

The head unit will not charge an iphone/ipod when the SD card is selected as the media source. The USB slot and the SD card slot must be connected to the same power source and switch power back and forth. It is only a problem when the SD card is selected - all other media sources (Radio/disc) will direct charge to the USB port.

The other annoying thing is that the unit ALWAYS resumes playing when the car is started, even if music was paused when I left the vehicle. This *may* be a setting I can fiddle with, but I am tempted to think that it is just a "feature" of installing a third party head unit which isn't as aware of the factory signals of the vehicle. The clock keeps time just fine after I turn off the car, so I assume that I connected the memory power cable correctly, and yet it always switches back to "play".

After all that, however; I love it! Much better than my stock stereo with no input options but the 6 CD changer. At the available price point, and with ALL the features this head unit comes with, I would recommend it to anyone trying to do an upgrade and stay under 0.

Advanced Sound Retriever
Hear the detail, warmth and clarity, the way the artist intended it, from all of your highly compressed MP3, WMA and AAC files stored on USB memory device, iPod and portable digital players. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tend to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies.

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner
Pioneer's legendary Supertuner IIID combines the best of digital and analog tuner technologies to reduce distortion to bring you exceptional FM and AM performance. If you live in an area where reception is weak, you'll hear a big improvement in signal strength. And when you're near tall buildings, Supertuner IIID reduces the effect of multi-path noise, which occurs when the signal is reflecting off of the buildings.

Always have your favorite stations at hand with 18 FM and 6 AM user presets. And when you're somewhere new, let the tuner do the work for you by activating the Best Stations Memory (BSM) function. The tuner will seek out the 6 strongest stations in the area and set them into the tuner presets.

Dial in Your Sound
Use and customize EQ curves, adjust the eight-band parametric equalizer, or change loudness and bass boost settings to get the perfect sound.

AUX-In Connection
Use the built-in AUX input for connecting any digital portable player and other external auxiliary devices. For extra-convenient access, the AVH-P3200DVD has this A/V input on the front panel.

For those who'd like a bit more power, three 4V RCA preamp outputs are also included for system expansion (front/rear/sub).

Available Bluetooth Wireless Technology
Use the available CD-BTB200 Bluetooth Adapter and Bluetooth-enabled cellular phones for easy, safe, and hands-free operation, including talking via the headunit's microphone and your vehicle's speaker system. The system automatically mutes any other audio during incoming or outgoing calls.

Rear View Camera Capability
Keep an eye on your backside using the optional Rear View Camera (ND-BC2 or ND-BC20PA): while you're in reverse the rear-view camera can be in full screen. An unit equipped with the optional rear-view camera adds a level of safety and assurance you can rely on. In addition to keeping you and your family safe, this feature also makes maneuvering in tight spaces easier.

Ready to Expand
The AVH-P3200DVD is also compatible with Pioneer's XM and Sirius satellite radio tuners, HD radio tuner, TV tuner, CD/DVD changers and more.

Great for the price
I wanted a deck that was ipod compatible. Then I realized I wanted a touch screen, color screen and customization, aux port and all the goods.
This deck is great and easy to install.
I bypassed the parking brake wires so it plays DVDs while you drive. Dangerous yes, but it's for my passengers.
If you can afford the model that comes with the Bluetooth feature you should get that.

Pioneer is the best
My only real complaint with the product is the dvd unlock sequence with the parking brake (I have an f-150 with a pedal e-brake) I don't plan on driving around while playing a dvd video, but having to apply, release, and then re-apply my parking break is quite the annoyance. I have ordered a toggle switch to bypass that action, and will receive it in the next 2 days. Over all, I recommend this stereo to anyone looking to get a touchscreen unit. This is one of the best stereos I've had a chance to play with. Installation was easy with a mounting adapter and a wiring harness. Touchscreen navigation is very smooth and fast! After installed I slightly wished I had gotten the 7-in unit, but this one more than fulfills my needs. It does take a few seconds to read a mp3 dvd/cd, etc,, but that's because it's indexing the entire drive for media. Sound quality is amazing, it's waaay better than my stock stereo system. Touch screen dvd navigation is a little tough to get through but hopefully the ir remote for this stereo will help with that.

Avh-p3200 dvd Great Unit!
I was originally looking for a unit that had navigation on it, but i wasn't ready to throw down that much money. This unit has the ability to add navigation, blue-tooth, HD radio, and satellite radio. I would have liked it to have a volume knob on it, but that's just a personal preference. The user interface is great! If you plan on trying to watch a movie while driving you'll have to wire in a relay (plenty of you-tube videos on how to) during installation. Another great feature of this unit is it has a sd and usb port on the front. The sd card seems a little slow, but the flash drive seems to be fast enough. All in all, a great unit, wish i would have thrown down a little more cash to get the one with the bigger screen, but its good enough.
One note, is i had to buy a couple of trim pieces that would fill in the gaps on the sides of my factory double din spot, so measure your openings.

Versatile, Great Sound Quality
I installed the Pioneer AVH-P3200DVD in my '10 WRX a week ago. It integrates
very nicely in the interior of the car; it looks just as stock as the
navigation unit available with the vehicle. The illumination color of the
unit's buttons match perfectly with the WRX's red interior lighting.

As far as sound quality goes: what a major improvement! Even though I had
the so-called "premium" WRX sound system, the new head unit completely blows
away the stock unit. I was thinking I would replace the speakers; now I'm not
so sure. The system sounds incredible.

Installation took awhile because I'd never done a new head unit install before.
But, in the end, I look back over the installation process and see that it was
actually fairly easy. My lack of experience was the only thing that made the
process take so long. If I were to do it again, it would go very quickly.

I gave this head unit four out of five stars for the following reasons:
- The album art in iPod mode shown on the unit's touchscreen is very poor.
- The response time to showing the music on the iPod is a bit slower than I
was expecting. But, it is still very useable.
- I cannot control the brightness of the touchscreen display. While it does
dim at night when I turn on the headlights, I'd like it to dim just a bit more
than it does.
- The user manual is vaguely written and poorly organized

Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT 7-Inch Flagship In-Dash Navigation A/V Receiver with DVD Playback and Bluetooth

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Here is why I like it:

* Reverse camera available almost immediately after starting car
* Radio starts about 5 seconds later while unit continues to boot
* expecting it to be upgradable to Pioneer AVIC-Z120BT 7" In-Dash Double-Din Navigation CD/DVD/MP3 with Pandora iPhone streaming later this year
* Quick booting, very responsive
* Looks great, no out of place knobs, completely touchscreen minus some small buttons on the bottom.
* Msn Direct. Many people like to complain it is only available until Jan 2012. While this is true, if you buy now, the cost is very little after averaging it out over the life of the unit. Hopefully Pioneer will have something else ready by then.
* Dead reckoning. Haven't hooked up my speed wire yet but people seem to like so I assume I'll like it too.
* Voice recognition /blue tooth seems to be hit or miss with some people but I find most people like it, and it works well for me.

Biggest problems I think are really with the GPS maps. Street names are not always labeled while driving. Can't upgrade....very little customization as far as I can tell. I haven't used IGO but I'd imagine if would feel like a downgrade compared to it. The unit also runs windows automotive which is not hackable in the same way units running CE are.

Another downside are somewhat costly modules if you want to add to your unit. Some things you may want to add which include additional purchases are

* Steering wheel controls
* MSN Direct (not sure but may not be able to combine with HD Radio or Sirius)
* HD radio
* Sirius / XM
* IPOD connector (NOTE: For me, music streaming from my ipod seems to work well using the standard IPOD Usb cable)

Ultimately, I wanted something that booted up relatively fast, was responsive, had traffic, not too expensive, and something that wouldn't stand out from the rest of the car and I'm happy with my choice.

Yamaha RX-V365BL 500 Watt 5-Channel Home Theater Receiver

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

I am a music Fanatic and music is my life...when i was looking for a receiver, what i had in mind one that would have power to bring my music and movies to life and at the same time have extreme clarity. this reciever does not fail in that aspect. its "Compressed Music Enhancer" is amazing at recreating your moives and especialy music. the processing technology takes sound to the next level...bringing out colorful and rich sound that is otherwise hidden. instruments sound "live" and highs are distortion free. another awsome feature is that it can recreate 2 channel(stereo) audio into 5 channel surround sound which i really love for listening to music. also i was very iffy at first about getting a receiver instead of an integrated amp cause i feared that it would not have enough power to blast my floorstanding boston accoustics but dont be fooled by the name. Man! this thing kicks! i dont even have to turn it up all the way. i would definately recommend the yamaha line if you are looking to upgrade an old amp or are want to get the best reproduction of your music.

Pros: Amazing Sound Reproduction, Extreme Clarity, Wonderful for its Price, Plenty of Power, "Compressed Music Enhancer", Multiple Inputs

Cons:Only One Digital(Coaxial)Input, Cant think of Anything else.. :)

Awesome reciever for the price!!
Im not Luly thats my mom but im 15 and an audiophile.
My setup: i got this reciever hooked to my Klipsch KG 4.2 floorstanding speakers. And my dad has the same receiver hooked up to his bose acoustimass 5 system.
This receiver is awesome. Volume gets very loud without distortion which is good. I like the fact that it has a music enhancer and even works while the radio is on, it makes the radio sound so much better and clearer and you dont hear that "sshhh" noise anymore. Its the best 100watt per channel reciever out there under 200$! I also got this with the yamaha ipod dock and it terrific except i only wished yamaha made a remote for the dock to switch songs instead of getting up to switch the song. overall, sound is crystal clear without distortion, great price and a lot of features.

Great for office use
I use this to play music through my computer in my office. Yes, it's much more than a typical computer setup, but I'm tired of buying expensive computer speaker setups that perform poorly and break after a year.

This is matched to a couple of decent speakers and a small sub and the sound is excellent!

Yamaha RX 365BL
It seems like a nice unit. I am still learning how to use it. I have a passive sub. witch seems to be making the sound from DVD playback kind of muted and soft, or its my dvr doing it. Other components sound very good.
