Kingston DataTraveler I - 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DTI/16GB

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

I like this flash drive. It's pretty quick both reading and writing large WAV and text files, both of which I do often. However, for some reason, I have an HP desktop computer and this drive just refuses to work in it. The computer recognizes the drive, begins the process of downloading and then the computer freezes, the flash drive disappears in the Computer screen in Win 7, and then it's finished. If I unplug the drive and reinsert it, it recognizes it, I begin the download and the same process happens all over. Very frustrating. This is actually a HP problem, because this flash drive works in three other computers with a range of configurations: All Win 7, but one AMD desktop computer, one Intel desktop computer, and one Lenovo laptop. On those computers, this drive works pretty fast and always flawlessly.

So, in essence, the flash drive is great. Using it in a HP computer is not great (at least my HP model.) Took off one star only because of that. Otherwise, would give it five stars. With some HP tech support help, (tried once with no success) I may be able to figure out what the conflict is.

D-Link DAP1522 Xtreme 4-Port GigaBit Selectable Dual Band Draft 802.11n N Duo Wireless Bridge/Access Point

D-Link DAP1522 Xtreme 4-Port GigaBit Selectable Dual Band Draft 802.11n N Duo Wireless Bridge/Access Point

We purchased a Sony W series TV so we could stream Netfix. Sony recommended the Linksys Bridge with only one ethernet port. The Sony TV also add the Linksys software already installed on the TV which is a bonus. So I purchased the D-Link Wireless 4 port bridge instead. I purchased the D-Link with 4 port so I could connect it to multiple ethernet enabled devices. I was initially frustrated with the set up for the D-Link. I had to change my IP address on my computer in order to set up the D-Link. After my first initial try to set it up, it did not work. After talking to an IT professional, I figured out that my SSID for my network had a capital letter, but when I set my D-Link I used a lowercase letter. Once I reset up my D-Link with the SSID with capital letter it worked. I can now stream Netfix and youtube right from my Sony TV. I also can stream pandora radio from my A/V receiver and update the firmware on my cablebox because I have the extra ethernet ports to do so. Over all it was a good purchase, but set took longer to set up than it should have intially. That is my only complaint.

Excellent choice for Xbox360 wireless connection
I need to connect my Xbox360 to a wireless connection for online gaming, behold the D-link DAP-1522 wireless bridge/access point... it does the job and more for the same price as the Xbox360 wireless adapter. The D-link connects my Xbox360 and have three more ethernet ports for computers and its range is excellent too. so later I will use this D-link to expand my wireless network in the house. Remember one thing, this is a wireless bridge/access point, it will not do a router's job. If you need to know more just look up the differences online. I currently only use it as an adapter for my xbox360 gaming, so I can only state that I experience excellent range, and connectivity. I have not utilized its encryption available for wireless protection while surfing the internet.

works great as bridge for my gaming system and other components
I have this setup as a wireless bridge to my dlink router and it has worked flawlessley since connected.
saves from running additional wires to remote location.

Good for my entertainment center
It was a hard to get installed on my network correctly, but once done it works fine. I like the fact that I can have both my DVR and blu-ray player plugged into the same unit. I would buy this again.

Poor documentation, Difficult to tweak.
I bought the D-Link DAP 1522 to provide a bridge for my D-Link DIR-655 wireless network system. In particular, I wanted internet access for my PS3 and Sony 52XBR9. The Sony PS3 had built-in wireless G connectivity that allowed me to access HD (not 1080P) movies from Netflix. However, I anticipate that 1080P will be available from Netflix and I put a Roku box on another TV (2 TVs to a Netflix account is the maximum) so I needed bandwidth and speed. The XBR9 also called for network access for firmware updates, and had Netflix and other services preprogrammed. The DAP 1522 would provide ethernet connectivity for both the XBR9 and the PS3, I hoped at faster n rates. Because both the 1522 and 655 were D-Link Xtreme N Duo products, I expected easy connectivity.

The first problem was autolinking the devices by means of "blue" buttons on the sides of the devices. Half the time the blue button on the 1522 would not light. Once the button became jammed in the down position which was a hastle to fix. Finally, there was no feedback as to when or how or if the units actually linked (the "signal" of the lights going out was as likely to be for timeouts as for a link, even with the units within two feet of each other. I also tried the same connections using internet access to the menus through my hardwired desktop. After several hours I achieved a connection that I could confirm. I connected the XBR9. The Roku box (about 15 feet closer to the DIR 655 and in another room, was hitting bursts close to 54 at 90-100% signal. My laptop (using N) hit close to 100 with 60-90% signal a foot above the 1522. THe XBR 9 through the 1522 was running 20-50% strength with rates in the teens. Netflix directly on the XBR was not watchable (to be fair, the Sony software on the XBR lacks a lot, but that's another story) I redid the connection of the XBR repeatedly (auto and manual) with no good results. I tried the PS3, switching from the built-in g to a hardwired connection to the 1522. Terrible. I read all the documentation on both the DIR-655 and DAP1522. No hint except that using a mixed network might degrade performance. Ah but my HP laptop communicated at a rate near 100 with a strong gn signal sitting next to the XBR9 and PS3.

I went on line to chat groups and got suggestions about changing channels and resetting switches in the DIR-655 to increase the "likelihood" of n-rate communication. Well and good. I read the documentation and worked my way through every menu I could think of. These switches were not available. I went to the D-Link site, and got email support and described the difficulty I was having locating the menu options (which I thought should be obvious in the wireless menus). They gave me the same suggested settings that I was trying to achieve, but completely ignored my request for where I might find the switches. Desperate, I tried the setup menu. Auto did no good. I tried manual and was led through several layers of menu which threatened me with dire consequences if I did not know what I was doing. I stopped and searched elsewhere. No good. Now I have been on the project more than five hours. I try the setup selection on the DIR655 again and press ahead through several layers of menu despite the warnings (I am ready to disconnect and return the unit). Voila, toward the end, I reach a nice screen where I can make all the adjustments I need. I make the adjustments that attempt to force the DAP 1522 into n mode. The connection power goes to 60%, but now the XBR9 and PS3 are considered to be directly connected and I get little hint about speed except for the indication of gn (like my laptop). However, the Netflix connection through the PS3 seems adequate for HD movies, but I am not convinced that it is better or faster than the built-in wireless g. The connection to XBR9 is adequate for me to update the firmware, but often stalls on the myriad of built-in connections that Sony provides. Sometimes the XBR9 dowloads music and slideshows from my network great, sometimes it says it cannot find the network. I do not know whether the blame rests with Sony, D-Link or both. The PS3 performs well, but I think it did as well with the built-in g for Music, Slideshows and Netlix. We will see when Netflixs releases 1080P movies over the net. At this point I am operational, and don't want to start over, but I am not happy with the performance or convenience of the D-Link products and interface.

Xbox 360 Power Supply Brick AC Cord Adapter Microsoft OEM Product With Power Cord!

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

The adapter shipped in a timely manner BUT the package was destroyed by USPS. I feel that had the product been shipped in an actual BOX instead of just being wrapped up and taped together, it might not have been so torn up. Fortunately, the adapter was still in good shape and worked as stated. If you are looking for this OEM Microsoft XBOX 360 AC Power Adapter to be in a pretty box especially made just for the power adapter it isn't. I was lucky the adapter arrived in one piece considering how it was wrapped to ship and what the USPS did to it.

This is a great cable and works perfect. I've been using it about a month to run internet to my room for Xbox Live and it works great. I actually saw this exact cable at a local computer store and the guy wanted like for it. This is a great buy, great deal, and an excellent cable.

works
It arrived. It works. No clip protection. Heat sealed plastics bag with bar code label. Felt dusty and dirty but appears new. It may be just long term storage dust. Good price for the length.

Great length
This product came in a timely fashion. This was the perfect length for our home. Thanks

great ethernet cable
why anyone would buy an ethernet cable at a local store like walmart or best buy is beyond me because they are sooooo cheap on here and I have bought probably 10 in the past year due to my friends all needing one so I just sell them mine and buy another and this is truely a great deal and they work perfectly.

Sony MDREX38iP/BLK EX Earbud with iPod Remote Control (Black)

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

I purchased these for my iPhone 3G, knowing the volume controls would not work. I previously had the Apple earbud headphones and after 15 minutes my ears were sore and didn't want to use them, not to mention all the external sound you hear. I picked up these Sony headphones for the mic and music control. The mic quality is the same for both the Sony and Apple headphones. I have some Skull Candy in-ear headphones and would say the sound quality is closet to those. There is noise reduction but of course isn't as good as noise canceling headphones. I prefer it this way actually, so I can hear if someone is talking to me. Worth the money and use them very often. I know there are a few reviews where people complained about the 3.5mm plug becoming frayed after continual use but I have had no problems with that. If it matters, these have gone through the washing machine and dryer twice and still work perfectly :)

Nikon 7238 Action Ex Extreme 8 X 40 mm All Terrain Binoculars

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Nikon 7238 Action Ex Extreme 8 X 40 mm All Terrain Binoculars

As a longtime birder I have learned the hard way that it's not a hobby for everyone. I had a close friend that when I mentioned that I was going birdwatching she looked at me, obviously puzzled, and said "Watch them do WHAT?"

However, every now and then I meet some young people who show a love for nature and it's various inhabitants. I met this particular couple through business and when they found out about my passion for winged creatures they often asked me questions about birds and birding. So I decided that a pair of binoculars and a birding guide-book would be an appropriate Christmas gift. The choice of a guide-book was easy for me but to choose a decent pair of binoculars took a little more study.

My everyday optics cost well over a thousand dollars. It was important to me that I picked a pair for my friends that was reasonably priced (I did not want to embarrass them by giving them too expensive of a gift). I also wanted to give them a gift that they would hold up well so that they could enjoy it for years to come.

I choose this pair for several important reasons:

* Porro-finder binos are not my favorite but they give much better performance than prism-finders at this price point
* I wanted a pair that were nitrogen filled, waterproof, fogproof and shockproof
* I insisted on an all-metal chassis even though they were installed in a polycarbonate shell

Nikon is a great name, one that is easily recognized even by novices but I would have happily chosen Swifts or Pentaxs or any other lesser known brand if I thought that they gave more quality for the price. I believe that this is a great pair of all-purpose optics for the price and, after giving them an thorough test I proudly gave them as a gift to some very special people. Five stars based on both quality and value.

Good finish, slightly disappointing optics
Ordered these binoculars primarily to watch wildlife and am disappointed with the optics quality. I only have my late grandfather's Berkut-7 Soviet made binoculars to compare this Nikon to, so maybe the quality of Nikon is OK for the price. But I really expected Nikon to be superior optics-wise than a pair of dusty twenty-something year-old binoculars I disassembled and re-assembled when I was a child, scratching the coating and leaving my fingerprints in a few places, as well as couple of chips at the edge of the lens. Those old binoculars give a crisper image with almost no chromatic aberration, while Nikon's picture looks noticeably more blurry in high contrast areas, like edges of buildings on sky background, text on road ads far ahead, birds on snow, etc. The Nikon's picture is a bit brighter though (due to bigger objective diameter and superior/intact coating), the finish is definitely better and it's waterproof. I wish Nikon was lighter though and its eyepieces softer.
----
Overall, it's a good pair of binoculars (but not great), it's just that it didn't meet my expectations. Knowing this I would look at more expensive series from Nikon or other manufacturers or wouldn't buy anything at all.

Best binoculars I have ever owned.
Really bright--seems to let in an inordinate amount of light for very crisp and beautiful viewing.
The only improvement would be eye cups to hold the glasses out from your eyes a little.

High Quality
Bought for my wife to mainly watch Bluebirds. She like the size, quality and ease of use. The price was good for the fine quality of the binoculars.

Nikon 7238 Action Binoculars
These are the best ever. I use them to watch wildlife in a field afar and they are very steady. I can see the spots on our baby deer at least 1/2 mile away.

This cartridge is generic. You must manipulate it a little to get it installed. It will fit but not perfect click in like the original . So far it works fine. However, from past experience, this type of cartridge usually acts up later on about half way through its life. As of right now, its prints looks great. I will post later if it starts to go bad. I believe if it continues to work well then it is much cheaper than buying OEM cartridge. It is worth-ed to give it a try.

Cables Unlimited Serial ATA Cable Kit

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

I bought these based on the same product's reviews on newegg, and they worked great for me! I saw another amazon review that said they didn't stick in place well, and I'm sorry to hear they didn't work for them. I have been building computers for many years now and these are just as good as any cables you can spend a lot more for. They have metal clasps on the sata cables that hold the connections in place, and the connection's so secure I can pick up a 3.5in drive just by the cable. The power adapter cable is useful as well, and essential for many computers. Used it to add a backup drive in a server and it's been working flawlessly this whole time.
